The amount of total carbon (C) which is drained all-year-round and is therefore threatened by peat mineralization (vulnerable C storage) was calculated per hectare peatland by the following equation:
n
Corg gef. = Σ (MHi * Corg Hi)
i=1
Where Corg gef. stands for the vulnerable C storage, MH describes each vertical thickness of the drained horizons in dm, and Corg stands for the stored amount of C per hectare and dm thickness of each drained soil horizon i.
The assessment of vulnerable C is carried out using a traffic-light rating system. The boundaries between grades were determined by frequency analysis.
