Water retention services, for this project's objectives, have been divided into two subsets of services. One comprises the uptake and retention of flood water. It is categorised with „Flood Water Retention Area“ and is assessed on the basis of a distinct position in the landscape. The other covers water retention in the landscape, is called „Retention Potential for the Regional Water Balance“. It provides vital ecosystem services particularly in regions with a negative climatic water balance.
